American Cancer Society

Relay for Life events involved HCL teams and individuals who participated in the Grove City and Circleville events in June. The HCL Grove City team was awarded silver status and raised nearly $2,770 for the American Cancer Society.

Other American Cancer Society projects:

  • Parking for a Cure — The Galloway office raffled off the front parking spaces for a week.
  • HCL sponsored Raffle for $400 worth of products donated by HCL.

Green Initiatives

The Think Green Team formed in 2009 to research and promote environmentally responsible business practices, products, and operations at work and at home.

Think GreenHealth Care Logistics on July 1st became Waste Management's first commercial client in Pickaway County to launch a single-stream recycling program. This eco-friendly initiative promotes greener living for HCL's employees and the community, and HCL hopes the launch will motivate other companies to follow its lead.

Single-stream recycling allows customers to commingle recyclable paper and mixed containers in the same bin for collection. The ability to mix rather than sort recyclable materials is a convenience that Waste Management reports greatly increases participation and the recyclable material recovery rate.

"For Health Care Logistics, Single Stream Recycling simplifies what we have already been doing and takes it one step further for our Circleville office," said Connie Lewis, HCL CEO. "This is yet another step in our 'Think Green' initiative. We are already using rechargeable batteries and changing our lights to be more environmentally friendly. Health Care Logistics also participated in an E-Waste disposal program and eliminated 4,000 lbs of waste from going to the landfill. This was made up of electronic equipment recycled through the Positively Green program and company. These programs are all ongoing at HCL.

We appreciate and applaud our employee participation and their drive to make this a successful endeavor!"

Supporting the Troops

Troops

HCL sends care packages to soldiers who are stationed outside the U.S. throughout the year and additional boxes during the holidays. We currently send packages to Marines, Army, Navy, and National Guard personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  HCL employees support this program with fund raisers to keep the military shelves stocked, which enables us to provide care packages to offer a taste of home for the men and women on active duty overseas.

Girl Scout cookies for the Troops
The Daisy Troop 1336 pals donated 61 boxes of Girl Scout cookies
to HCL's "Support the Troops" campaign.

"Anyone who's served in the military knows hearing your name shouted during MAIL CALL is a wonderful sound to hear because you know someone back home cares."

– Dustin French, a recipient of HCL care packages, serving his 3rd tour of duty in Iraq

HCL also participates in Operation Sweet Tooth, a volunteer-run program that, for the cost of postage, provides individually wrapped homemade cookies to soldiers stationed overseas.

Message from HCL to active duty service men and women overseas:
Thank you for your service and dedication to our country. We look forward to your safe return to the U.S.A.

Take Your Child to Work Day

Each child was assigned a job (customer service, IT, human resources, accounting, and maintenance). From taking and filling orders for rubber chickens, they picked, packed, shipped items and experienced every step of the process. They even had to figure out how to deal with a few pre-planned bumps along the way to practice HCL's famous customer service. When their orders were shipped and the payment received, they were paid "cluck bucks" to buy HCL goodies.
